FLINT, MI – Dallas Mavericks center JaVale McGee continues to recover from a left leg stress fracture, but that isn’t stopping him from giving back for the Thanksgiving holiday.

He is among those continuing the rich tradition of Flint’s NBA stars donating turkeys to the community.

Flint’s first NBA player Justus Thigpen started the gesture in the 1970s and others such as Morris Peterson continued.

The Flint Development Center will host McGee’s fifth annual Great Turkey Drive on No. 24, when 500 turkeys will be distributed to families in Flint.

Turkeys will be delivered to Freeman Elementary School, Brownell STEM, Holmes STEM, Beecher High School, Daily Elementary School and Hasselbring Senior Center.

The Flint Development Center will also distribute turkeys from 1-4 p.m. at its center, 4121 Martin Luther King Blvd. All turkeys must be reserved by calling 810-326-3631.

McGee will be donating turkeys to 10 other locations around the United States in Texas and Southern California.

His goal is to provide a Thanksgiving turkey to families in need with children, disabled veterans, and seniors.

McGee is not able to attend.
